Smart hunters choose the bullet before the caliber

These articles crack me up. It's like an advertisement for new designer rifles and cartridges. Ive lived in Alaska and seen what people there use to hunt as subsitance to feed their family to hunt Caribou and Moose. Plus Bear. Old beat up Remington 30 06 bolt action rifles, Russian Mosi Ganat rifles and 12 gauge pump shotgun with slugs. The only ones up there with fancy rifles and fancy cartridges are tourists

Nothing beats a good ole 30-06 or 30/30

It’s all about shot placement. How do you kill an elk or a polar bear which is the largest carnivore on the North American continent bigger than a brown bear with a bow and arrow ? shot placement that’s the answer. Don’t get me wrong. You will not drop one of them animals in their tracks right where they were standing with the bow and arrow, but you can still kill one with it whereas the right bullet with the right shot placement will drop an animal that size with one shot

The new bullet designs are available in the standby calibers like 30-06 too. I went to the 6.5 cr because my shoulder cant take heavy recoil anymore. You choose what best fits your needs, it's all personal choice.

real hunters use only a 22 single shot bolt action.

had a neck injury a few yrs back couldn't stand the recoil of even a 06 so I bought a 6.5 grendel and have killed deer from 10 yrds to 300 always with one shot and the recoil u can't even feel best and most accurate gun I have ever picked up

The 25-06 Rem is a prime example (with the right bullet).

really hunters don't not shoot past 100 yards.they get up and personal with animals.light bullets do not kill at 600 yds instantly either .I found many dead elk over the years hit with light caliber bullets that ran until they bled out..I hunted for 45 years using my 45 w 20 sharps and 50 149 sharps.single shar o s because of knock down power and I hunt in thick woods.which is easy to lose elk in mountain areas with crevassws up and down ravines.50 caliber 470 gr lead hardened bullets make half inch hole straight through animal no zigzagging meat damaging in paths.all but one shot at r elk were under 75 yds..all these fancy expensive lightweight rifles topped with expensive scopes.and using expensive ammo do not have even half the knock down power of my sharps.i make own 50 cal bullets and reloaded same shells for years
