Found This at a Yard Sale. Am I a Bad Person for Keeping It? 😳
I happened to stop by a yard sale right after it was over, and everything left was free for the taking. It looked like a family was clearing out their mother's old stuff, so there was a ton of old belongings. I grabbed a few things. Long story short, I got home and opened up the box. It held three smaller boxes. The first one had some old Boy Scout pins, and another had two sets of very nice earrings. The third one had a vintage-looking ring with a 14k marking and some other engraving. It was clearly not something that was meant to be given away for free 😱😳 I have been so conflicted about what to do ever since. On one hand, I could leave a note for the family saying I think something was accidentally given away. On the other hand, it would be easy to just keep it and get the ring sized for my daughter one day. I feel pretty awful just for considering that, but I have no idea how to handle this. I found a bunch of cash in an envelope at a supermarket parking lot. Didn’t even think about it was headed for the courtesy counter when a guy frantically cane up and ask if anyone turned in an envelope with cash. He was so thankful. It felt so good

Everyone is telling her to do the right thing. What would you do if the tables were turned. This day and age not many would return it and do the right thing. Just saying. Be realistic here.

I once found a diamond and ruby ring caught in the threads of a purse picked up at a rummage sale 20 miles from home. I drove back and went to the lady running the sale and said I was sure this wasn't intended to be sold. The lady shrieked, "Where did you find it?" I explained where it was, and she couldn't stop crying. it had been her grandmother's that was given to her as her wedding ring 40 yrs prior. it had been missing for several years. She tried to give me a reward, which I refused. Her joy at getting it back was enough for me.

How do you not know how to handle this? Go back to the place you got it tell them about it and see if they meant to get rid of it.or not. It's called Honesty, if you feel guilty now it will.omly get worse. Not to.mention possibly a heartbroken family that accidentally gave away a family heirloom.
