My car is full of tortilla chips and I'm not sure why

I opened my hood today to refill the windshield washer fluid and saw something I still can't believe. What appears to be a big pile of tortilla chips was sitting there. I was so confused. I am really hoping there is another explanation for this. Could they be fallen tree leaves that somehow got all fried and bubbly? I just cannot wrap my head around a pile of chips being in there. It's right where the exhaust manifold connects to the block. Looks like some kind of foamy heat shield. I'd take it to a mechanic. Those aren't chips.

some form of rodent. though it's more often a stash of acorns I've seen. but as said before, watch out for snakes and cats. I'm a retired auto tech and have taken a few cats out of engines.

Have you noticed an odd smell in yout car? Like something burning. Some chips are very flammable. Unless you just bought this car, I think someone ranked you. Maybe they thought it would be funny but I would worry about their intentions. Keep your car locked so no one can open your hood
