The bill that Senator from Lousiana John Kennedy introduced would prevent politicians from getting paid during the government shutdown. Kennedy recognizes the shutdown as unfair for federal workers as they are essentially penalized while the politicians have made little effort in coming to agreement. Kennedy also mentioned that empty plates aren't bargaining chips and that "If we can't do our job and fund the government, then we don't deserve a paycheck plain and simple".
