Why I Counted Every Almond
I used to measure out my seeds—ten pumpkin, a teaspoon of chia, never more. I told myself it was about health, but really, it was about control. The numbers on the nutrition label felt safer than the numbers on the scale.
Sometimes I’d stare at my snack pack, rehearsing the benefits in my head: fiber, protein, healthy fats. I thought if I got it right, maybe I’d feel right, too. But the guilt always found a way in—too much, too little, never just enough.
Even now, I catch myself counting. Not just seeds, but bites, moments, reasons to forgive myself for eating at all.
