My mom's one-liner ended a 30-year-old argument without a fight and made my father ashamed

My sister called my dad a while back, crying her eyes out. She was so upset about her husband, saying he works all the time and expects her to do all the cooking, cleaning, and work her own job on top of it. He barely even talks to her. My dad, heartbroken, promised to talk to my brother-in-law. When my mom walked into the room carrying a huge pile of clothes to put away, my dad started complaining that she had known about this and never told him. She just smiled and looked at him. "I am wondering how you were right in the same situation, but now your son-in-law is wrong!" Suddenly, everything went quiet. My dad just stared at her, and I could tell he was thinking about his own marriage. He realized that for 30 years, he had been doing the exact same thing to my mom. He worked all the time, didn't talk to her much, and expected her to do everything around the house. My mom never complained. And just to add to the irony, she was holding a massive pile of clothes she was about to put away. Then my mom spoke again. "The only difference is my father never called you." My dad apologized and hugged her. He had never realized he was the very same man he so despised, until his own daughter married one. *** I loved the last line.
