Barbara's Fishtrap - Deep Fried Jumbo Shrimp FTW 🙌

This weekend, we took a family trip to Half Moon Bay. For lunch, we chose a seaside restaurant called Barbara's Fishtrap... and it did NOT disappoint! Sure, at first glance, the menu seems filled with your average fried food items (fried fish, shrimp, etc.), but this place has a bit of an unfair advantage, being right by the water. The seafood is superbly fresh, and the frying process adds a deliciously crunchy texture while retaining an incredible sweetness! The Ocean Prawn Tempura is a personal favorite — the shrimp is absolutely tender and literally bursts with flavor with each bite. Trust me, even if you pass on everything else, make sure you try the fried jumbo shrimp! But it's not just the food that's great, the surroundings are amazing too! The restaurant is located in Harbour Village, complete with fantastic amenities, fantastic views, fishing opportunities and a beach that's perfect for a leisurely stroll with the kids. There's even a Shopping Center! If you're not the outdoorsy type, just stop here and you’re gonna get the entire Half Moon Bay experience - breathtaking blue seas and skies with plenty of sunshine ☀️. 📍Barbara's Fishtrap 281 Capistrano Rd, Half Moon Bay, CA 94019 #BarbarasFishtrap #DeepFriedJumboShrimp #HalfMoonBayEats #OceanPrawnTempura #HarbourVillage #SeasideDining #FamilyTrip #HalfMoonBayExperience

choosing between fairmont and westin in singapore

We’re planning a family trip to Singapore this July, and I’m stuck choosing between two hotels. In the past, we always stayed at the Fairmont or Swissotel—never had a bad experience, and their service always felt a notch above. But this time, I noticed the Westin is offering a much better rate. I’m tempted, but I keep wondering if the lower price means we’ll be giving up something important, like location, breakfast quality, or even the little touches that make a hotel feel special. I’m not sure if I should stick with what’s familiar or take a chance on the Westin just to save a few bucks. Has anyone else faced this dilemma? Did you regret switching, or was it a pleasant surprise? I keep thinking about how much we walk in the heat, and if the Westin is farther from the main attractions, I might end up regretting the savings. Sometimes, saving money just means you spend more time and energy getting around. But then again, maybe the Westin has some hidden perks I don’t know about. If you’ve stayed at both, which one made your trip smoother or more enjoyable? #SingaporeTravel #HotelDilemma #FamilyTrip #Travel

is a nile cruise in egypt really worth it for active travelers?

I finally convinced my 78-year-old dad to go to Egypt with me this fall. He’s always dreamed of seeing the pyramids, and honestly, I’m excited too, but I’m already running into some planning headaches. I’m pretty active—I love hiking and exploring off the beaten path, and while my dad’s in good shape for his age, he’s definitely not up for anything too strenuous. He’s mostly interested in soaking up the sights, eating great food, and making the most of every day we’re there. Here’s the catch: my dad really wants to do one of those Nile river cruises, but every package I find seems to be designed for big groups of retirees who are happy with touristy stops and pre-set menus. I’m worried we’ll end up stuck with a bunch of people who just want to watch staged performances and eat at overpriced buffets, while I’m itching to try street food and explore local markets. My dad’s all about maximizing his time, but I don’t want to waste ours on things we’re not interested in. We’re aiming for a two-week trip, and I’d love to find a way to mix in some authentic experiences—maybe some hidden gems, real Egyptian food, and of course, the classic sights. Has anyone actually managed to find a tour or itinerary that keeps both an adventurous daughter and her food-loving dad happy? Or is the Nile cruise just a tourist trap no matter how you slice it? #EgyptTravel #NileCruise #FamilyTrip #Travel

rethinking my 30th birthday trip after plans changed

I was all set for a big 30th birthday trip this October—something fun but not too wild, just a nice getaway with my husband and maybe my parents. We were going to hit the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction in Cleveland, then spend a few days exploring the Great Lakes. I even started mapping out the best diners and quirky roadside stops along the way. Well, turns out the induction ceremony is in LA this year. LA! That’s a whole different ballgame from a cozy Midwest road trip. Now I’m stuck. Do I really want to drag everyone across the country for one night, especially since my parents aren’t big on flying? Or do I just skip the whole induction idea and find something else closer to home? I’ve been poking around online for alternatives—maybe New Orleans for some jazz and beignets, or Gatlinburg for those gorgeous fall colors. Michigan and the Northeast are also on my radar, but I’m not sure if there’s anything truly special going on in late October or early November. Honestly, I’m a little bummed. I wanted something unique and memorable, not just another dinner out. But I also don’t want to end up at a cheesy Halloween event or drag my family somewhere they won’t enjoy. Has anyone else had to totally change birthday plans at the last minute? Did you find something even better than what you originally wanted? #birthdayplans #travelquestions #familytrip #Travel

is michigan kid-friendly for a summer road trip?

We’re planning our first big trip to Michigan this August, flying in from Philadelphia with our two little ones—one’s 2.5 and the other isn’t even walking yet. I’m already sweating about the flight, but at least it’s not cross-country. Traverse City is supposed to be beautiful, but I keep wondering if we’re biting off more than we can chew by trying to see so much with two kids in tow. We’re thinking about hopping around to places like Mackinac Island, Pictured Rocks, and Sleeping Bear Dunes. The photos online look unreal, but are these spots actually doable with toddlers? I keep picturing us lugging a stroller through sand dunes or trying to keep the kids happy on a ferry to Mackinac. And don’t get me started on the weather—one friend says it’s shorts weather, another says to pack jackets. I’d rather not pack the whole closet if I can help it. I love being outdoors, but I’m not sure if I’m underestimating how much chaos two small kids can add to a road trip. Are there places you’d skip with little ones? Or any hidden gems that aren’t crawling with tourists? And honestly, is there any food up there that’s worth the hype, or should I just stick to packing snacks? #MichiganTravel #FamilyTrip #TravelWithKids #Travel

where to take my sister for her graduation trip?

My little sister is about to graduate college, and I promised her a trip to celebrate. Now, I’m stuck trying to figure out where to actually take her. It’s not just us—her boyfriend and our dad are coming too, so it’s a real family affair. We’re all from Florida, so we’ve seen our fair share of beaches, but she wants something special: a place with beautiful beaches, good food and bars, and some real hiking—like mountain or jungle trails. She keeps saying, “Something like St. John, but not St. John.” We’ve already done St. Thomas/St. John (and honestly, St. John was perfect, but she wants new), Ambergris Caye in Belize (Dad’s obsessed with it, but we’ve been twice), and Turks and Caicos (which was gorgeous but felt way too fancy and commercial for us—like, do I really need to see another Miami-style resort?). She’s throwing out places like Aruba, St. Croix, St. Martin, Curacao, and Antigua. I was looking at Roatan, Utila, or even Zihuatanejo, but I’m worried the Pacific will be too cold in winter, and some of these spots don’t really have the hiking she wants. Zanzibar even crossed my mind, but that’s probably a wallet-buster. Has anyone actually found a spot in the Caribbean or Latin America that has those hiking trails right near the beach, isn’t crawling with tourists, and doesn’t cost a fortune? Or are we chasing a unicorn here? I feel like every place that’s got great beaches is either packed or crazy expensive, and the places with hiking are nowhere near the ocean. If you’ve managed to find that sweet spot, I need to know. We’re running out of time, and I’m starting to think we’ll just end up back in St. John eating the same conch fritters as last time. #traveladvice #familytrip #caribbean #Travel

train or car in austria with a baby: which is less stressful?

Last summer, we decided to take our 1-year-old on a trip through Austria, hoping for a mix of beautiful scenery and a bit of adventure. We had our hearts set on Vienna, Salzburg, Hallstatt, and maybe even Prague if we were feeling brave. The big debate was whether to rent a car or rely on the train system. I kept picturing us lugging a stroller, diaper bag, and a squirmy toddler through crowded train stations, praying we wouldn’t miss our connection. But then I thought about driving: endless hours in a rental car, trying to keep a baby entertained, worrying about parking in old city centers, and figuring out car seat rentals in a foreign country. It felt like a lose-lose situation! Honestly, I love the idea of relaxing on a train and watching the mountains roll by, but I’m not sure how realistic that is with a little one who doesn’t sit still for more than five minutes. On the other hand, the freedom of a car sounds nice, but the stress of navigating unfamiliar roads and dealing with European parking gives me a headache just thinking about it. Has anyone actually done this route with a baby? Did you regret your choice? I’d love to hear if the train was a lifesaver or a nightmare, or if the car made things easier or just added more stress. Traveling with a toddler always feels like a gamble, doesn’t it? #AustriaTravel #FamilyTrip #TravelWithBaby #Travel

is it impossible to get an uber with a carseat in honolulu?

So, we're planning our first family trip to Honolulu, and honestly, I'm already stressed about the car situation. We’ve got a toddler who’s about to turn three, and everyone keeps telling us not to bother renting a car because it’s crazy expensive—plus, hotel parking is at least $50 a day! That’s more than what I used to pay for a whole week of groceries back in the day. But here’s the thing: I started looking into Ubers, and now I’m worried. Has anyone actually managed to get an Uber with a carseat in Honolulu? I’ve heard it’s like finding a unicorn. I don’t want to spend half my vacation just waiting for a ride that never shows up. Or should we just give up and take the bus everywhere? I’m torn because I want things to be easy, but I also don’t want to be stuck on a crowded bus with a cranky toddler and a stroller that barely fits through the door. Has anyone else been through this? Did you find a way that actually worked, or did you end up regretting your choice? I feel like there’s no perfect solution, but maybe someone has a secret tip I haven’t heard yet. Let me know what you did—and if you’d do it again! #HonoluluTravel #FamilyTrip #TravelWithKids #UberProblems #ParentingStruggles #Travel

should i rent a car or just uber in orlando?

So here’s the situation: we’re heading down to South Florida for Christmas, and then planning to drive up to Orlando for a Disneyworld adventure right after. Now, I’m stuck on whether we should just rent a car for the whole trip, or do a mix of Ubers and park shuttles. Here’s what I’m thinking: Option A: We drop off the rental car as soon as we get to Orlando, then Uber over to the Disney hotel, use their transportation for the parks, Uber again to Universal for our day there, and finally Uber to the airport when we leave. Option B: We keep the rental car, park it at the Disney hotel (which is apparently free?), then drive ourselves to Universal for a couple nights, pay for parking there, and finally return the car at the airport. But the rental alone is $422, not counting Universal’s parking fees. I’m honestly torn. On one hand, I love the idea of not worrying about parking or driving in theme park traffic (I swear, Orlando traffic is a whole different beast). But on the other hand, Ubers can add up fast, especially during the holidays. Plus, what if we get stuck waiting for a ride with tired kids at midnight? Has anyone actually compared the costs and hassle of both options? Did you regret not having your own car, or was it a relief to just let someone else drive? And is Disney hotel parking really free, or is there a catch? I feel like there’s always a catch! If you’ve done this trip around New Year’s, I’d love to hear what worked for you. Did you run into any surprises? Let’s be real—what would you do if you were in my shoes? #OrlandoTravel #DisneyWorld #FamilyTrip #TravelTips #CarRental #Travel

Lebanon’s Hidden Dangers

I thought a family trip to Lebanon would be a dream—ancient ruins, sacred churches, and the kind of Mediterranean beauty you only see in movies. But the reality hit me hard. We planned to use Batroun as our base, lured by photos of its charming old town and turquoise sea. But no one tells you how isolated you’ll feel once you’re there. The roads are winding, narrow, and filled with reckless drivers who seem to have a death wish. My father, who’s usually fearless behind the wheel, went pale at the thought of driving those mountain passes. I tried to hire a private driver, but the prices were outrageous—almost as much as our flights. Taxis? Good luck. Most drivers only want to take you short distances, and they’ll argue over the fare at every stop. The idea of public transport was a joke. We spent hours just trying to figure out how to get from Batroun to Baalbek, and every option seemed riskier than the last. Still, the sites themselves were breathtaking. Baalbek’s Roman ruins rise out of the Beqaa Valley like something from another world, but the moment was spoiled by aggressive touts and the constant worry about getting stranded. The Qadisha Valley’s silence was shattered by the sound of distant gunfire—locals shrugged it off, but we couldn’t. Even Beirut, with its stunning mosques and cathedrals, felt tense, the scars of past conflicts never far from the surface. Travel blogs paint Lebanon as a paradise, but no one talks about the anxiety, the logistical nightmares, or the way you feel like an outsider no matter how hard you try. Maybe that’s the real story—Lebanon is beautiful, but it’s not for the faint of heart. If you’re looking for a relaxing vacation, think twice. But if you want to feel alive, to taste danger and wonder in equal measure, then maybe, just maybe, it’s worth the risk. #LebanonTravel #TravelConfessions #FamilyTrip #TravelRealTalk #HiddenRisks #Travel
