lolson+FollowWho's crazy enough to scout in this heat? 🔥Anyone else braving this humidity to hang trail cams? Hit sunrise last weekend thinking I'd beat the heat - NOPE! Was dripping sweat and my shirt was basically glued to me by the time I got back to the truck. Y'all pushing through or waiting for cooler weather? #hunting #SummerScouting #Outdoors 10Share
tyler79+FollowDo you bring your kids hunting? To the seasoned hunters out there - are you passing down the tradition to your children? Starting to think about introducing my little ones to the woods. Would love to hear your experiences and any tips for getting kids started safely. How young is too young? #hunting #HuntingWithKids #HuntingTradition #Outdoors 4229Share
bushjill+FollowWhy energy numbers don't tell the whole story - my hunting lessonShot a buck with my 30-06 last season - perfect heart/lung shot, turned everything to mush, but he still ran 400 yards in 10 seconds before dropping. These animals are just tough! Got me thinking about ballistics though. A .22-250 and .45-70 have similar energy on paper, but one's for coyotes and the other drops grizzlies. Energy formulas overweight velocity - if speed killed everything, we'd all be using .17 magnums at 5000 FPS! Big bore cartridges don't need to expand like smaller rounds do. They start big and hit hard. What's your take on energy vs bullet diameter for hunting effectiveness? #hunting #Ballistics #HuntingAmmo1920Share
Manuel Bright+FollowI just found out hunting mature bucks helps fight CWDBeen thinking about this after reading a recent study—turns out targeting mature bucks does more than just fill the freezer. Older bucks are more likely to carry CWD, and by harvesting them, we actually help slow its spread. Lower deer density, younger herd structure, and fewer infected animals on the landscape—it all adds up. Makes me wonder: should more of us be focusing on older age-class bucks not just for the trophy, but for the herd's health too? #hunting #CWD #buckhunting #Outdoors 83Share
tyler79+FollowWhy .300 Win Mag is overkill for deerKeep seeing this question pop up everywhere, so figured I'd share what I've learned over the years. Truth is, the best deer caliber is whatever you can shoot accurately with good bullet construction. Most states require .243 minimum, which is perfect starting point - .243 Win or 6mm Creedmoor will drop deer cleanly. Want less recoil? 6.5 Creedmoor and .25/06 are sweet spots. Classic .308, .30/06, and 7mm-08 never disappoint either. Unless you're in grizzly country, skip the .300 Win Mag - your shoulder will thank you. What's everyone running this season? #hunting #deerhunting #huntingcaliber #huntingtips70109Share
mmoore+FollowWhy every squirrel hunter needs a good dog Had this amazing little terrier mix who completely changed my squirrel hunting game on our 50/50 woods-field property. Without her, I'd walk past most squirrels hiding up in the canopy - you just can't spot them all. She'd tree every single one, standing guard at the base until I could take the shot. That little dog and I would regularly bag 20+ squirrels in just a couple hours. One memorable day we got 40+ between me and my buddy with her doing all the hard work. The difference compared to hunting solo was incredible. A good squirrel dog doesn't just find game - they turn every hunt into something special. Anyone else run dogs for squirrels? #hunting #squirrelhunting #huntingdog #smallgame #Outdoors 363Share
tyler79+Followthis knife gets me through entire deer processingBeen using my Outdoor Edge for years now and honestly can't imagine switching. One blade handles the whole process - field dressing, skinning, everything. That's efficiency right there. Never bothered with the gut hook feature, but those longer blades that lock open? Perfect for butchering. What I love most is how compact it stays while giving you razor-sharp performance. Quick blade changes mean I'm spending more time processing and less time fighting dull steel. Anyone else swear by replaceable blade systems? #hunting #outdoors #huntinggear #huntingknives91Share
Manuel Bright+FollowI swear by scent and decoy combos nowAnyone else having success with decoys during pre-rut? I’ve been playing around with buck and doe setups — adding scent and pairing calls like grunts or bleats makes a huge difference. Learned that buck decoys should face your shooting lane since they usually come in head-on. And yep, they always try to swing downwind first. Curious what tricks others are using! #hunting #deerhunting #huntingtips 30Share
lolson+Followy'all, the south is winning the mature buck gameUsed to think the Midwest was the go-to for older bucks, but new data says the South is where it’s at. Oklahoma, Mississippi, and Louisiana hunters are harvesting the highest percentage of 3½+ year old bucks in the country. Oklahoma tops the list with a whopping 85% mature bucks in harvest! Maybe it's time to plan that Southern hunting trip... #hunting #deerhunting #southernhunting #whitetails00Share
