I basically do nothing at work but my boss thinks I'm an exceptional employee

I work as an engineer in the construction industry. As you probably know, people in this field are always stressed. They work ten to twelve hour days, sometimes on weekends, and have to handle a ton of different tasks all at once. Here is the thing though. I do none of that. My job is just to handle reports and other paperwork. On a typical day, I come in, look at a few things, send some messages, and then I am done. I could finish my entire workload in an hour or less. But I pretend to be busy before I leave early almost every day. My boss, who is located somewhere else, has never noticed this. Every time we talk, he praises me for being hardworking and a crucial member of the team. Before you all start hating me, I feel so useless because of this. I secretly hate my job and I am trying to find a new one. #WorkLife #Confessions #Engineering #CorporateLife #LazyEmployee #Funny #Discussion #CareerAdvice #JobCareer #Job

Wife Calls Me 'Loser' After Early Retirement Success ๐Ÿ˜ค

Hey everyone, I'm really struggling here and need some perspective ๐Ÿ˜” I'm 41 and achieved FIRE last year - $2M liquid, plus $75k annual royalties from a business I sold. My wife still teaches (great for healthcare), but she's calling me a 'loser' for how I spend my retirement days. During winter months when she's working, I honestly just game and relax at home. I mean, I worked my butt off for 15 years in a high-stress career to get here! ๐ŸŽฎ I handle all the cooking, cleaning, and we take amazing vacations every summer. She thinks I'm 'too old' for this lifestyle, but isn't this what early retirement is supposed to be about? The freedom to do what you want? I'm making $125k annually from investments alone - double her teaching salary. Am I wrong for wanting to just chill after achieving financial independence? How do I handle this judgment? ๐Ÿ˜• #JobCareer #EarlyRetirement #FIRE

Boss Expects Me to Do 3 People's Jobs After Promotion ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Hey everyone, I really need your advice right now because I'm completely lost ๐Ÿ˜” I'm 26 and worked my way up from intern to department head in just 3 years at this marketing firm. The money is great - I'm making almost triple what I started with! But here's the problem... After half my team quit last month, my boss just assumed I'd pick up all their work without hiring replacements. I'm literally doing the job of three people now ๐Ÿ˜ฉ On top of that, I found out through the grapevine that she's been talking trash about me to other managers, saying I'm "too ambitious" and "difficult to work with." I'm having panic attacks daily and can barely sleep anymore. I found this amazing opportunity at a startup - better work-life balance, actual mentorship, room to grow - but it's 10k less than what I'm making now. Should I take the pay cut for my sanity? Is my mental health worth more than the money? I'm so torn and could really use some perspective from people who've been there ๐Ÿ’” #JobCareer #WorkplaceBurnout #CareerAdvice

I'm Mentally Checking Out at Work - Is This Normal? ๐Ÿ˜ฐ

Hey everyone, I really need some advice here because I'm honestly struggling ๐Ÿ˜” Last year I visited my brother-in-law in Arizona over the holidays. Seeing him enjoy his retirement - attending community events, leisurely dinners, zero stress - really opened my eyes to what life could be like. Then when we all started working from home, something shifted inside me. I loved having control over my day, keeping my space clean, actually enjoying my surroundings. The corporate grind felt so far away ๐Ÿ  Now here's my problem: weekends feel too short and Monday mornings are becoming torture. I find myself dreading the transition back to "work mode" even on regular weekdays. It's like I'm mentally checking out of my career entirely. Am I having some kind of midlife crisis? Has anyone else felt this way? I'm genuinely worried about my future but also can't shake this feeling that corporate life just isn't for me anymore. What would you do? ๐Ÿ’ญ #JobCareer #Career #careercrisis

38 Years of Work, Retirement Feels So Anticlimactic! ๐Ÿฅฒ

After 38 years of grinding away at my job, I thought retirement would feel like a huge celebration. I even suggested to my husband that we escape the cold and spend a few days in sunny Orlando. But he reminded me that our daughter is starting college soon, and he wants to be here for her. I get it, but it still stings a little. Honestly, it all feels a bit underwhelming. I spent years dealing with endless meetings, last-minute emergencies, and the stress of rush hour traffic. Now, my first real day of retirement is just... quiet. Iโ€™m about to go for a long hike, and maybe thatโ€™s enough. But is it normal to feel this lost? Has anyone else felt this way after leaving work behind? How did you handle the sudden change? Iโ€™d love to hear your advice or stories. ๐Ÿฅบ #JobCareer #Career #RetirementLife

Should I Retire at 62 or Keep Working? ๐Ÿ˜ฐ๐Ÿ’ญ

Hey everyone, I'm really struggling with a huge decision and could use some advice. I'm 60 and have been working at the same company for 25 years, but I'm feeling completely burned out. ๐Ÿ˜” My original plan was to retire at 65, but lately I've been wondering if I should push it up to 62. The stress is really getting to me, and I'm not sure my health can handle three more years of this demanding job. But I'm terrified about the financial implications. I've run the numbers a dozen times, and early retirement would mean a smaller pension and less savings. My wife thinks I should stick it out, but she doesn't see how exhausted I am every single day. ๐Ÿ˜ฐ Has anyone else faced this dilemma? How did you decide between financial security and mental health? I'm really torn and would love to hear your experiences. #JobCareer #Career #retirement
