patrick16+FollowFound this flashing in my car after getting it serviced. what is it?I just noticed this thing in my car this morning and it’s freaking me out a bit. It’s flashing red and green, and I’m 99% sure it wasn't there before I took my car in for service a few days ago. I have no idea if it just fell out from under the dash or if the mechanics left it there on purpose. Should I unplug it or just leave it alone? I’m worried it’s some kind of diagnostic tool they forgot, or worse, something that’s going to mess with my battery. Has anyone seen one of these before? #MechanicAdvice #CarProblems #WhatIsThisThing #CarService #HelpNeeded 161157Share
taylorjoseph+FollowIs this hose supposed to be open like this? Just found it while checking my batteryI’ve only been driving this 2008 Hyundai Accent for a month and just noticed a random hose in the engine bay that isn't connected to anything. I recently had a sensor replaced, so I’m worried the mechanic might have forgotten to plug it back in, or maybe it’s supposed to be like that. Looking closer, it seems like the previous owner swapped the factory airbox for one of those red cone "performance" filters, and now that original intake hose has nowhere to go. Is it safe to just leave it dangling, or should I be worried about the engine sucking in hot air and dirt? #MechanicAdvice #HyundaiAccent #CarRepair #EngineBay #DIYAutoRepair 01Share
schmidtgeorge+FollowTiny clear chip fell out of my key fob. Now my 2006 CRV won't start. What is this thing?I dropped the main key to our 2006 Honda CRV and a tiny, clear piece popped out and is lost. The car cranks perfectly fine but won't catch. I know the rest of the key fob circuitry is okay, and the battery isn't even required to start the car. I tested it by holding the spare key's broken plastic shell—which still has that tiny part—next to the ignition with the damaged key inserted, and boom, it starts right up. What exactly is this essential little component? Is it some kind of radio transmitter, or just the security chip for the immobilizer system? I need to know what I actually need to replace. #MechanicAdvice #CarHacks #Immobilizer #KeyFobRepair #Cars #Honda 01Share
malonestephen+FollowMy friend just did the world's most depressing oil change and discovered a $5,000 problemSo my buddy noticed his Ford Excursion was leaking a little oil and decided to drop the oil pan to investigate. He pulled out this giant chunk of orange plastic and sent me the picture asking what on earth it was. I had to break the news that he just found part of his timing chain guide. If you know those Ford Triton engines, you know this is absolutely the worst news possible. That little plastic bit is essential for keeping the timing chain exactly where it needs to be. Without it, the chain loses tension, things can jump out of alignment, and the valves can impact the pistons. That means this leak investigation instantly turned into a full engine rebuild situation. #MechanicAdvice #Ford #TritonEngine #BadNewsBears #CarRepair #Cars 124Share
malonestephen+FollowMechanic Said My Subaru Suspension Is "Urgent" at 68K Miles. Am I Being Scammed?Just took my 2015 Subaru Crosstrek in for a simple oil change and to replace a reverse light. The mechanic came back with an immediate warning: I urgently need to replace the Front Suspension Control Arm on both sides. The estimate for that is around $1,600. Here is my situation: I work fully remote now, so my driving is minimal. However, I am planning a multi-state road trip soon, and 85% of that drive will be highway. My Crosstrek is only at 68,000 miles, and I bought it from the dealership at 55,000. It seems ridiculously early for a control arm replacement to be "urgent." How truly urgent is this front suspension issue? #SubaruCrosstrek #MechanicAdvice #CarRepair #UrgentRepair1027Share
schmidtgeorge+FollowI Love This Car, But It Hates MeI bought this beautiful old car and I really love the way it looks. The only problem is I hate driving it. It was set up for drag racing and it’s a total nightmare on normal streets. The shifter is wild, there are crazy switches for everything, and the fan and speedometer are totally broken. It feels like the car gets mad at me for not taking it to the racetrack. All I want to do is drive a normal automatic car and maybe go pick up some flowers. 😂 #Restoration #MechanicAdvice #CarTroubles #ClassicCars #Cars 6117Share
dennis03+FollowMy mechanic said I need a new tire, but he couldn't even tell me whyI took my 2012 Mazda 3 in for a look because it is making a clunking sound after I hit a jump. The mechanic said I needed a new control arm, which makes sense to me. But then he told me I also needed a brand new tire. I was pretty confused. The tires are only two years old and I can't see anything wrong with them. I asked the mechanic what the problem was and he just ran his hand over it and said he could "feel it." He gave me no other explanation. I also thought the price was ridiculous. He said it would be $150 for just one tire. I paid about $300 for a whole set of them on sale at Walmart. This is not a dealership either, just a new random guy I've never seen before. Does anyone have a clue what he could have been talking about? #CarTrouble #MechanicAdvice #DIY #CarRepair #AutoRepair #HelpMe #HelpNeeded #CarTires 82134Share
benjaminmeyer+Follow$2300 for Brakes?! Am I Getting Ripped Off Here? 😬 Just got a quote to replace my brakes, and the number hit me like a ton of bricks: $2300! My gut feeling is that this sounds incredibly steep, so I'm already heading out for a second opinion. 😑😡 The shop claimed all my calipers need replacing because the pins and pistons are rusted. Given that, what would you say is a fair price range for getting pads, rotors, and calipers changed out? I'm trying to figure out if I'm being seriously overcharged here. #CarRepairStories #Cars #Brakes #AutoMaintenance #MechanicAdvice #CarProblems #Overpriced #SeekingAdvice #VehicleRepair #AutoTips 242615Share
