why does lake natron turn animals into stone?
I’ve always loved exploring weird natural wonders, but Lake Natron in Tanzania really takes the cake. I saw some photos online of birds and animals looking like they’d been turned into statues, frozen in time. At first, I thought it was some kind of art project, but nope—it’s real! Apparently, the water is so salty and alkaline that if an animal touches it, they end up looking like they’ve been turned to stone.
Honestly, it sounds like something out of a horror movie. I can’t help but wonder: how do the local people and animals live anywhere near this place? I mean, if I were a flamingo, I’d be nervous about taking a dip! And yet, I read that some birds actually nest there. Isn’t that risky? I’ve been to lakes that are a little stinky or have too many bugs, but nothing like this.
Have any of you ever visited a place that looked beautiful but turned out to be dangerous? I’m torn between wanting to see Lake Natron in person and being a little freaked out by it. Sometimes nature is just wild, isn’t it?
