Bhutan Wasn’t Magic—It Was Real
I sat with breakfast cooling in front of me, staring out over Punakha’s valleys. I’d come to Bhutan half-expecting disappointment—too many travel blogs, too many perfect photos. But the air was sharp, the rice was sticky, and nothing felt curated for my feed.
I kept waiting for the letdown, for the moment I’d realize I’d been tricked by hype. It never came. Instead, I found myself noticing the quiet: monks laughing in the courtyard, the way the fog rolled off the river, the taste of butter tea that lingered longer than it should have.
Bhutan didn’t change me. It just let me be there, honestly, for once.
