Told my kids I wouldn’t wake them up for school. The past 2 morning have been delightful!
The other night, after watching a video about a dad who left daily responsibilities entirely up to his kids, something clicked for me. I realized just how much I was micromanaging my mornings—and how much stress it was causing. So I sat down with my two school-age kids (10 and 8) and told them: from now on, they’ll be responsible for waking up, getting dressed based on the weather, brushing their teeth, and making it to the car by 7:25. No more constant reminders. If they miss the car, they’ll owe me gas money through extra chores. It was a little nerve-wracking at first, but honestly? It’s been such a relief. I'm still there to support them—helping with homework, brushing their teeth at night, reading together—but giving them ownership of their mornings has been a game-changer for all of us.Sometimes teaching independence starts by trusting they can handle it.Has anyone else had a similar parenting breakthrough?
