This Local Ghost Town Is Slowly Sinking Into The Bay

History: - Drawbridge, originally called Saline City, started as a cabin for the drawbridge operator in 1876. - It became a popular weekend attraction, with 79 cabins and two hotels by 1906. - Drawbridge had a unique layout, with cabins on stilts above the marsh and railroad tracks running through the town. - It attracted hunters, nature lovers, and partiers due to its location and lack of police presence. - The town had two neighborhoods, divided by north and south. Decline: - Drawbridge's decline began in 1936 when the freshwater supply began to decrease. - This led to fewer visitors and permanent residents, and by 1963, only 5 residents remained. - In 1979, the last resident, Charlie Luce, officially left the town. Present: - Drawbridge is now part of the Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge. - It is not open to the public, as it is illegal and unsafe to visit. #GhostTown #Drawbridge #SanFranciscoBay #Abandoned #History
