How a Service Dog Gave Me My Life Back

Imagine fainting up to 15 times a day and being stuck in one room for five years. That was Sophie’s reality until she got Tashi, her medical assistance dog. Tashi can sense when Sophie’s about to faint—sometimes up to seven minutes before it happens! Thanks to her furry sidekick, Sophie’s back to work, advocating for service dogs, and living life again. 🐾 “Between the trenches and the horizon of peace, there walked some of the quietest heroes…” During the First World War, specially-trained dogs known as ‘mercy dogs’ or casualty dogs were sent into the worst zones of no man’s land to find wounded soldiers, carry water and first-aid supplies, and even stay with those dying so they wouldn’t be alone.  These dogs wore saddlebags, Red Cross markings, and walked a path of service and sacrifice that paved the way for modern working dogs like our tracking and scent-work champions. Tomorrow, on Armistice Day, we will honour all working-dogs in service — from battlefield companions to police and rescue K9s.
