The Hike Was Ancient. I Was Just Tired.

Standing at the top of Angels Landing, I expected awe. Maybe some revelation, maybe a sense of victory. Instead, I felt small—like I’d stumbled into a world that never needed me. The rocks looked older than memory. The wind didn’t care if I made it up here or not. Everyone talks about the view, but no one tells you how quiet it gets when you’re out of breath and out of reasons for being here, except that you said you would. I kept thinking about dinosaurs, about time swallowing everything. I took a photo I’ll never post.
