Why Judging the Homeless Misses the Real Point

I honestly can't stand it when people say, "Don't give homeless people money because they'll just buy alcohol." Even if that's true sometimes, so what? Can any of us really imagine what it's like to be homeless—cold, hungry, and constantly stressed? If someone in that situation chooses to spend a few dollars on something that helps them cope, who am I to judge? They're adults making their own choices. We need more compassion, not more judgment.
