kyoto trip: lost in translation and looking for breakfast
We landed in Kyoto with high hopes and empty stomachs, dreaming of a traditional Japanese breakfast. The city was waking up, the air was crisp, and the narrow streets were filled with the scent of fresh rice and grilled fish. We had a list of must-try breakfast spots from a travel blog, but after wandering for 20 minutes, we realized the addresses didn’t match up with what we saw on Google Maps. It was like the restaurants were hiding from us!
I started to wonder if these places even existed or if we’d fallen for some internet myth. My feet were aching, and my patience was running thin. I couldn’t help but think about how, back home, I could just drive to my favorite diner and be eating in no time. Here, every sign was in Japanese, and I was too embarrassed to ask for help. Has anyone else spent more time searching for food than actually eating on vacation? And why does it always seem easier for locals to find these hidden gems?
