mcphersonlaura+FollowPeople were creating cat memes in the 1870s 😂 I can prove itApparently, the Brighton photographer Harry Pointer had a series of cat pictures in the 1870s and 1880s called The Brighton Cats. He started with normal photos of his pet cats resting or drinking milk, but then he started specializing in taking them in all these wild and humorous poses. He would have them mimicking human activities, like a cat acting like a king, one playing the violin, and even one trying to take a photo with a camera. The best part was he would add a written caption or even a greeting like "A Happy New Year" and people would buy the little cards to send to each other. It was all a way for him to make some money off his pets. By 1872, he had created over a hundred different captioned images of cats. By 1884, that number was up to about two hundred. This just proves that people have been obsessed with cats and memes for way longer than we think. 😜 #Cats #History #VintagePhotos #BrightonCats #OldPhotos #Humor #AnimalPhotos #CatMeme #CatLovers #RetroVibes #VintageFinds 370Share
Lisa Goodwin+FollowThis Is What Calling Home Looked Like in the 1980s 😄The girl standing is wearing a Boston College sweatshirt from the Cotton Bowl. The quarterback was a guy named Doug Flutie and he led them there in 1985. So you know this picture is at least from then or later. You can also tell by their hair and clothing that this is definitely the late 1980s. It reminds me of a time when you had to share a phone line or maybe even wait for a turn to call home. 😊 #1980s #Nostalgia #Retro #CollegeLife #Dorms #Throwback #80sFashion #VintagePhotos #Payphone 60Share
RetroVibesOnly+FollowParents and Their Three Sets of Twins, 1920sI came across this glass negative from the 1920s of a couple posing with their three sets of twins. I had to stop and look at it for a minute. I just can't imagine having six children and half of them are twins. They say that if you want to have twins, you need to look at the mother's side of the family. The genes for hyperovulation are passed down to the woman. So, a couple who's had twins could very well have more twins. #Twins #FamilyHistory #Genetics #VintagePhotos #Discussion #FunFacts #RetroVibes 17324Share

RetroVibesOnly+FollowThis Old Photo Mocks the Hays Movie Censorship Code by Violating as Many of Its Rules as Possible in a Single ImageI found this old photo from 1934 and I had to share it. It was created by a photographer named A.L. "Whitey" Schafer as a sort of joke to mock the Hays movie censorship code. The whole point was to violate as many of its rules as possible in a single image. The words in the upper right corner say: THOU SHALT NOT 1. LAW DEFEATED 2. INSIDE OF THIGH 3. LACE LINGERIE 4. DEAD MAN 5. NARCOTICS 6. DRINKING 7. EXPOSED BOSOM 8. GAMBLING 9. POINTING GUN 10.
