honeymoon on a budget: is it even possible?
So, here’s the deal: I’m getting married this summer (finally!), and my soon-to-be wife and I are dreaming of a real honeymoon. You know, the kind where you just relax, eat way too much, and forget about the world for a couple of weeks. The thing is, we haven’t had a vacation together since we started dating five years ago—heck, neither of us has even taken a real break since high school!
But now that we’re actually looking at prices, I’m honestly shocked. Everything seems ridiculously expensive, especially flying out of Canada. We’re stuck with Toronto, London, or maybe Montreal as our starting points, and it feels like the airlines know we have no other choice! I’m starting to wonder if we should just postpone until a cheaper season, but we really want to go right after the wedding at the end of July. Is August any better? Or is there a secret off-season we’re missing?
We thought about those all-inclusive Caribbean resorts (because, let’s be real, they sound easy), but the prices are making my wallet cry. Are there actually cheaper alternatives that don’t involve sleeping in a tent or eating instant noodles every night? We’ve got about $4,000 CAD to spend for two weeks, and we’re open to anywhere—Dominican Republic is on our radar, but nothing’s set in stone.
Has anyone else faced this? How did you manage to pull off a honeymoon without needing a second mortgage? Did you find any hidden gems or travel hacks that actually worked? I’d love to hear your real experiences—especially if you’ve ever flown out of Canada and felt the pain. I feel like everyone online just says, “Oh, it’s easy!” but my bank account says otherwise.
Seriously, what’s the best deal you ever found, and how did you find it? Any tips for making a honeymoon feel special without blowing the budget? Or is this just the reality of travel now? Let’s commiserate—and maybe help each other out!
