why did my late dad’s bromeliad decide to bloom now and make me cry?

I never thought a plant could hit me this hard. My dad handed me this bromeliad from his backyard when he got sick. I kept it on my windowsill, watering it just enough and making sure it got some sun. I read somewhere that bromeliads like to dry out a bit between waterings, so I tried not to fuss over it too much. Eight months after losing him, I spotted a bright bloom poking out. I just stood there, staring, and the tears came out of nowhere. It felt like a little hello from him.
