bushjill+FollowWhere do you shoot a deer to save the most meat?Just behind the shoulder = perfect lung/heart shot AND preserves the most venison! Been my go-to for years. Quick, ethical kills without sacrificing meat quality. Where do you aim for your shots? #hunting #deerhunting167426Share
paulcarol+FollowMy old 870 puts meat on the table just fineI’ve noticed a lot of hunters feel pressured to spend thousands on the newest gear or make hunting their entire identity. For me, it’s much simpler. I check the zero on my old 870, head into the woods, and wait for that one deer to take the wrong path. I usually just take one each year—it’s enough for me, and I turn it into a pot of venison chili I’m proud of. Hunting is still something I love, even if I’m not as hardcore as I was when I was younger. It doesn’t have to be about money or clout—it’s about putting good food on the table and enjoying the tradition. Curious—do you keep your hunts simple, or do you like going all-in with new gear and extra tags? #Hunting #SimpleHunting #VenisonChili #HuntingGear 30859Share
tyler79+FollowWhy my knife matters more than my gunIt took me a few seasons to realize my hunting knife is just as important as any tag or rifle. From clean field dressing to cutting rope or even making camp lunch—your blade does way more than you think. Precision and durability matter when you’ve got meat on the line. If your knife can’t hold an edge, you’re in for a frustrating time. Got a go-to knife you swear by? #hunting #outdoors ##huntingknife #huntinggear677313Share
tyler79+FollowI used to judge other hunters until I realized thisI'll be honest - I used to silently judge hunters who weren't "serious" like me. Then I realized we're all just different types enjoying the same passion. After years in the woods, I've noticed we basically fall into these camps: The Gear Junkie 🎯 Always has the latest bow setup, newest trail cams, and can justify every $200 purchase. Spends more time researching equipment than actually hunting, but man does their setup look professional. The Minimalist Shows up with grandpa's .30-06 and still fills tags while we're fiddling with gadgets. Proves that skill beats gear every time, and somehow always has the most comfortable setup. The Meat Hunter Freezer full of venison is the only scorecard that matters - antlers don't taste good anyway. These guys know every butcher trick and can turn a doe into dinner for months. The Trophy Chaser Won't even draw on anything under 140" - patience of a saint but walls full of giants. Spends years tracking specific bucks and celebrates like they won the lottery when it finally happens. The DIY Guy Does everything himself from scouting to processing - hates guided hunts but loves the grind. Public land warrior who door-knocks private parcels and earns every single opportunity. The Know-It-All Has a theory for everything but somehow never seems to tag out consistently. Always sharing articles about wind patterns but can't explain their empty freezer. I'm honestly a mix of gear junkie and meat hunter - love new equipment but also love filling the freezer. There's no wrong way to enjoy the woods. tyler79+FollowDoes anyone else feel older gear works better? I’ve been using my Remington 870 for 30 years—slug barrel, a few chokes, and it still gets the job done. Taken plenty of deer and hogs with it over the years, and it’s never let me down. If you're in the market, aim for one made over a decade ago—the quality is unmatched. Police trade-ins are also a great budget route—cheap, reliable, easy to maintain, and parts are everywhere. Does anyone else feel that older gear works significantly better? #hunting #HuntingGear #Remington870569103Share
bushjill+FollowIs Wild Pig Meat Actually Good to Eat?Wild pigs are leaner, earthier, and packed with protein—perfect if you're into keto, paleo, or just love wild game. Great for stews or sausage, and way less fatty than farm pork. Anyone else love the flavor or have tips on cooking it right? #hunting #wildgame #huntandcook #cleaneating #wildboar834824Share
Manuel Bright+FollowOops, I probably created some anti-hunters 😬Took my buddy hunting last weekend - he got his second deer ever, a beautiful doe! But here's where I messed up... Went to the car wash the next day to clean deer blood out of my truck bed. Workers peeked over, saw the blood, and their faces went from curious to horrified real quick. I let them stew for a bit before gruffly saying "deer blood." Manager was still shaken but let me through. Made me realize: messing with nonhunters might be funny, but it sure doesn’t help the image of hunters. Lesson learned—next time, I’ll keep the mess (and the jokes) out of town. #hunting #deerhunting #Outdoors 7791342Share
Eric Ford+Followthis guy's diy hunting shack has me jealousJust watched this hunter build his own mountain hunting shack with zero construction background. Pure trial and error plus help from his kids made it happen. Total cost? Under $5k! Looks absolutely perfect - surrounded by trees, peaceful as can be. I can already picture myself unwinding there during hunting season, no cell service, just the woods and wildlife. Makes me want to start planning my own little getaway spot. Anyone else dream about having their own hunting retreat? #hunting #huntingcabin #DIY #huntingdreams #outdoors1649Share
hodebra+FollowWhy I stopped free hunting on my land 😤Used to let hunters on my 100 acres for free to hunt pigs. Big mistake. Found beer cans in my pond, ATV ruts everywhere when it was too wet, and caught them shooting deer without permission on my trail cams. Now I wouldn't let someone hunt for $1,000. Maintaining property is hard work and some hunters just don't respect it. If you get permission to hunt private land, treat it like gold. #hunting #landownerlife #huntingethics 558299Share
tyler79+FollowDon’t hunt in insulated boots - here's why 🥾After hunting elk all over the state, I'm convinced insulated boots are overrated. They're heavier, hotter, and you're stuck with them when temps rise. Go lightweight and uninsulated instead - just throw on thicker socks when it's cold. I've only needed insulated boots a couple times in years of hunting. Currently rocking Under Armour HOVR Dawn boots and they're perfect. Way more versatile than bulky insulated ones! What's your boot preference - insulated or uninsulated? #hunting #elkhuntingtips #bootrecommendation #huntingboots3917Share
