finding peace (and surprises) in the bucegi mountains
Last week, I finally got to visit the Bucegi Mountains in Romania—a place everyone online swears will make you forget your worries. We woke up at 5 a.m., packed some sandwiches, and set off, thinking we’d be the only ones there. Well, turns out, half the country had the same idea! The parking lot was packed, and we had to hike an extra mile just to reach the trailhead.
But once we started climbing, the view really did take my mind off everything. The air was so crisp, and the pine trees smelled amazing. I even spotted a few wildflowers I hadn’t seen since I was a kid. But here’s the thing—just as I was finally relaxing, a group of hikers blasted loud music from a speaker. I couldn’t help but wonder: is it just me, or does anyone else find it impossible to fully escape when people bring city habits into nature? I love the mountains, but I miss the quiet I remember from years ago.
Have you ever found a place that promised peace but ended up with unexpected surprises? I’d love to hear if anyone else has had their perfect escape interrupted. Sometimes I think the real challenge isn’t finding a beautiful spot, but actually getting a moment of peace there. I guess that’s just part of the adventure!
