Is It Odd to Ask for Unpaid Time Off as a Bonus?
So, here’s my dilemma: I’ve been working at this tiny, tight-knit private school in the Midwest for nearly five years. My boss and I? Well, we have our moments, but honestly, she leans on me a lot, and I know the place would feel pretty different without me around.
The school isn’t exactly rolling in cash, and I’m definitely not here for the paycheck. But as my review comes up, I keep wondering—would it be weird to ask for a week off each summer, unpaid, instead of a bonus? The summers here are short and sweet, and honestly, that time feels way more valuable than a little extra money they can barely spare.
