OrbitalOtter+FollowSick teacher finished his students' grades in hospital before tragically passing awayhis one really got me. Imagine caring so much about your students that even in your final days, you’re still making sure they’re set for the future. That’s more than dedication—it’s pure love for teaching. 🌟 We often talk about heroes, but sometimes they’re not in capes… they’re in classrooms. #Life #News #LifeLessons #Society 12538944Share
plopez+FollowI Was Granted Asylum, But I Can't Legally WorkI fled Uganda a year ago due to persecution for my sexual orientation. Last month, the immigration judge granted my asylum application! I cried. I thought I was finally free. However, I have to wait 180 days after my asylum grant to apply for a work permit (EAD). For these six months, I can't rent an apartment (no credit history), can't get a driver's license, and can't work legally. I am surviving on food banks and crashing on friends' couches. I am desperate to start my new life, pay taxes, and support myself, but I'm trapped by this "waiting period." #Asylum #WorkPermit #EAD #Refugee #NewLife94132Share
aaron88+FollowSNAP and Work IncentivesI work full-time and pay my taxes. But I’ve noticed that some people around me don’t seem motivated to work because they have SNAP benefits. Some even say, “Why bother? The card covers it anyway.” I’m not against welfare, but I think this can weaken people’s motivation to work. SNAP should support those in real need while also encouraging self-reliance. A better balance is needed. #SNAPLife #SNAPTalk1214Share

Wendy Marquardt+FollowLet us find kindness for each other NOW! We need it more than ever. I lived in lower Manhattan on that morning 24 years ago. I made a last minute decision to work from home that morning to finish my budget projections. I saw the first plane hit The Twin Tower and like everyone else thought that it must be a horrible accident—maybe a private plane off course… as Matt and Katie were talking in the background.. The Today Show. They were as clueless as we were….then the second plane seemed to come out of nowhere; hit the other Tower. Instantly we all knew we were being attacked. The terrorists hit Our Homeland: America—Land of The Free. Home of The Brave. I have so many memories of the next hours, days, weeks, months…as does every human who lived thru The Experience in real time; In real life. But now we are terrorizing ourselves; driven by hatred and politics—there is one thing that was my single most important memory: New Yorkers are not generally known for their kindness to strangers; but this profound experience helped us TO BE KIND TO EACH OTHER for 2 yrs. Let it be so again, America!2486Share
DappledDolphin+FollowThis story is haunting — and says a lot about how we treat people who won’t sellI just read about the woman whose remains were found inside the wall of her own home — after she went missing in 2015. Turns out, she’d been one of the last people refusing to sell her house to the developers next door. That detail hit me hard. She wasn’t some recluse — she was someone who simply wanted to keep her home. The same walls she fought to protect ended up becoming her grave. I don’t know the full story, and I’m not jumping to conclusions, but it really makes me think about how much pressure regular people face when big money wants their land. Developers can call it “progress,” but for a lot of folks, it’s erasure. She probably thought she was just standing her ground — like anyone would. Now she’s gone, and the neighborhood’s probably a parking lot or luxury condos by now. It’s heartbreaking how we only talk about people like her after something terrible happens. #Creepy #UnexpectedResults #UnexpectedHistory 757802Share
Patrick Brooks+FollowImmigration Benefits Policy Keeps Families ApartI’ve been working in the U.S. for four years—construction by day, food delivery by night. I have no free time, but still can’t bring my child here. Because my status hasn’t been approved, my child can’t get healthcare, can’t enroll in school here, and can’t access any benefits. Every month, I send money back home. But during video calls, seeing my child sick and untreated breaks my heart. I’m not lazy. I work harder than many. But the system feels like an invisible wall between us. I’m not asking for everything. I just hope long-term, law-abiding taxpayers like me can get more support to reunite with our families. Children shouldn’t be punished for their parents’ immigration status. #ImmigrationPolicyNow103156Share
Charlotte Schmidt+FollowThe Benefits Finally Arrived. I Only Bought Junk FoodToday, the court ordered the November SNAP benefits released. My EBT card finally has money. I went straight to the store. What did I buy? Fresh vegetables? Milk? Chicken? Nope. I bought every can of Spaghetti-O's, every bag of chips, all the instant ramen, and all the soda I could fit in my cart. All the high-calorie, long-shelf-life, zero-nutrition junk. Why? Because this month taught me one thing: the government can, and will, turn off your food supply at any time. I don't care about the "food pyramid." I care that when the politicians start fighting again next month, my kids have calories to eat. I'm fighting their stupid policy with my own. #SNAPLife #Hoarding #PolicyFailure479878Share
James Anderson+FollowElder’s Repair WaitI’m almost seventy, living mostly on retirement and small assistance. The air‑conditioning broke, and the repairman said: “We need the federal contract approved again.” I sit in the heat, watching the TV mention benefits delays from the shutdown. I used to trust the government. Now I just wait. #ElderlyLives #GovernmentShutdown #ServiceDelay52Share
