My grandpa passed away. Can anyone help me identify his tattoo?

My incredible grandpa passed away recently at the age of 85. I'm so grateful my grandma took a picture of his tattoo before he passed because for whatever reason, I never asked him about it. It's got a banner with his name, EDWIN, and as a kid I always thought it was some kind of leopard. The only story he told about it was that he got it to cover up a crude "LOVE MOM" cross he had done himself when he was a kid. I believe this was done sometime between 1954 and 1965. In that time, he was a railroad switchman and a long-haul trucker. He was also a total badass who rode motorcycles. I don't know anything about tattoo styles, but I would love to know more about this. If anyone has an idea about what this is or what the style might be, I would be so grateful. #FamilyHistory #FamilyRelationships #FamilyStories #HelpNeeded #Tattoos #Skin

My sister has a Ph.D. but secretly tried to steal all of our inheritances

My mom got pancreatic cancer, and I was trying to get her affairs in order. She had asked me to be the executor, so I was handling everything. While looking for the car title to give to my niece, I found some other paperwork. I was shocked. It was a legal document showing that my sister had taken our mom to an attorney to have the house and land transferred to her name. This happened six months ago, and our mom never said a word about it. She was still paying all the property taxes and bills. I was so mad. I immediately hired an attorney and worked to get everything transferred back into my mom's name. It was a complicated process, but I got it done. I am so glad I did because she passed away just three days later. My brother could not believe it when I told him what she had done. My sister has a Ph.D. but a serious case of entitlement. In the end, I split the entire estate into three equal parts, exactly how my parents always wanted it. #FamilyDrama #Inheritance #FamilyConflict #SiblingRivalry #EstatePlanning #Money #FamilyRelationships #FamilyStories

My daughter punched a bully and I refuse to make her apologize 😡

My daughter punched a bully in the face at school today. Honestly, my first reaction was probably not what the school expects from a parent. Now, her teacher made writing an apology letter her homework assignment, and I am absolutely fuming about it. Here's the thing: this bully, "Joe," has been making my daughter's life miserable. The teachers know about it, the principal knows about it, and they have done absolutely nothing to stop it. They just let this kid torment others. So, am I wrong for telling the teacher my daughter isn't doing it? Because if she writes anything, it's going to be something like this: "I am sorry I am in a class where the teacher teaches children to be victims. I am sorry that I go to a school that actively promotes bullying by punishing kids who defend themselves. I am not sorry for what I did to Joe. If there's a next time, it will be a lot more than a single punch." I raised my daughter to stand up for herself. This whole situation is just disgusting. I am so tired of schools punishing victims instead of dealing with the actual problem. What would you do in my shoes? #BullyingPrevention #Parenting #NoApologyNeeded #StandUpForYourself #FamilyStories #Parenting #FamilyRelationships

10-Year-Old Disabled Girl Became The First Student In Class To Expose Teacher's Sexual Abuse.

I came across this story and it still blows my mind. When she was about ten years old, she had a truly awful teacher. He punished the boys by hitting their fingers with a big ruler. But what he did to the girls was much worse. He would pinch their inner thighs in front of everyone. The girl was handicapped and could only use her left arm. When the teacher called her up for punishment, she refused to take the girl's punishment. She told him she wanted the boy's punishment instead and stuck out her usable arm. When he refused, she calmly looked him in the eye and called him a disgusting pedophile in front of the entire class. Of course the teacher got extremely angry. He shouted at her to go to the principal, but the girl just waited in the hall. Soon her French teacher came by to taunt her for being a bad student. The girl told her why she was sent out and the French teacher got really pale. It turned out the French teacher's own daughter was in that class and was also a victim. She rushed into the classroom and started a huge fight. When the girl's parents heard what happened, her father went to the school and made sure the teacher was dealt with. The pedophile ended up only being suspended for a month, but he never dared to touch another girl again. It's crazy to me that this ten-year-old handicapped girl was the only one in a class of thirty healthy students brave enough to stand up to him. And that girl is my mother. She is the strongest person I have ever known. *** This mother is truly a badass. Hats off to her for being so brave and fighting for what was right. I wish all the sex offenders would go straight to hell. #FamilyStories #Mom #BadassWomen #TrueStory #ChildhoodMemories #Justice #Inspiration

When did you realize your parents were bad parents?

I was in 4th grade, around nine years old. Our mom was picking us up from school that day, which was a rare change. As I walked up to the car, I saw the trunk tied shut with a rope and a weird numbness washed over me. I then listened to my mother brag all about how many beautiful plants, hanging baskets, and flowers she had just bought. She had new clothes while we were wearing hand-me-downs. We constantly had almost no groceries halfway through the week because she had run out of money, while she would buy lunch regularly at work. She had just spent her entire tax return on plants. She made enough money to easily support us, if only she had been capable of thinking about anything beyond her own instant gratification. That was the moment I realized who my mother really was. At just nine years old, I understood that I was more of an adult than she was capable of being. 😮‍💨 I'm curious if anyone else has a similar story. #Parenting #FamilyRelationships #FamilyStories #ChildhoodMemories #PersonalGrowth #LifeLessons #AdulthoodTruths

The Day My Dad Made Me Ride a Carousel at 24

My parents came to visit me in Minneapolis, and like every family outing, we wandered the Mall of America. Somewhere between the giant Lego store and the food court, we passed the carousel. My dad stopped, eyes bright like a child’s. "You MUST go on that ride!" Dad burst out, totally hyped. "It'll be fun! Please!" My sister and I were getting annoyed. "No. We're not babies anymore." We kept walking, but then I realized Dad wasn't with us. I turned around. There he was, 52 and graying, just watching that carousel. Watching parents with their kids, listening to giggles, seeing them wave as they passed.Something about that image hit me in the chest. I tugged my sister’s arm. “Come on. Let’s ride it.” We turned around and told Dad. His face lit up, like we’d just handed him the moon. He rushed to buy the tickets, practically bouncing as he handed them over. The carousel was slow and creaky, the kind that plays tinny music and smells faintly of popcorn. But every time we passed, my parents were there waving, snapping photos, laughing so hard their shoulders shook. If there's anything I hate more than watching my parents get old, it's watching them feel old. Sometimes love isn’t in the grand gestures. Sometimes it’s just climbing onto a carousel you’re too old for, waving like you mean it, and letting someone you love see you as their child again. ❤️ *** I guess it's that kind of "Forget it, I'll do it" moment. That was really, really sweet. If you are young now, you may not realize exactly how much until around 2045. #FamilyFirst #FamilySupport #Parenting #Love #FamilyStories

What is the rudest thing a family member has said to you?

“You will never amount to anything like your older brother.” My grandfather said this to me. I wasn’t athletic, didn’t get top grades, and started babysitting my younger siblings at 10 instead of doing sports. I wanted to go college, but couldn’t afford it, partly because my brother had borrowed (and wasted) family money. He went to college, dropped out, burned through jobs, married a woman no one liked, adopted her kids, got in trouble with the law, went to jail, and later got mixed up with drugs. Me, I’ve kept steady jobs, built a happy marriage, coached my kids’ t-ball teams, earned CPR certification, and helped run our local youth committee. Grandpa was right. And that’s the best thing that ever happened to me. #FamilyDrama #FamilyRelationships #FamilyStories #Siblings #Family

My nana has done something I'm going to talk about forever. Seriously.

My grandmother, born in 1860, arrived in this country alone at 19, traveling in steerage from Ireland. She spent two years as a child caretaker for a local family, working off the cost of her passage. Once free, she didn't hesitate; she opened and ran a boarding house for Irish immigrant mill workers. Life threw unimaginable challenges her way. She went blind after an accident involving wood chips while chopping kindling. Soon after, my grandfather died suddenly of a heart attack, leaving her alone, sightless, and with five children to raise. In an era before social services, when families relied entirely on each other, she managed it. All five of her children graduated high school. At 80 years old, in 1939, she came to live with our family. She insisted on contributing, taking care of us four kids to help my mother. She maintained her influence and guidance by telling stories, her words painting vivid pictures for us. Through it all, I never once heard her complain. I have never encountered anyone quite like her. #FamilyHistory #IrishImmigrant #FamilyStories

A "Pint-Sized Terror" Who Made a Drunk Abuser Beg for Mercy!! 👵

My grandmother, a fierce woman barely over five feet tall with fiery red hair, was a newlywed living in the Bronx in the early 1900s. Her family's motto was "Fierce" When Roused,' and it turned out to be incredibly fitting. One day, she heard her upstairs neighbor crying. It turned out the woman's husband regularly came home drunk and beat her. Now, my grandfather was a huge guy, but Grandma didn't need his help. She told the neighbor to leave her door unlocked and stamp on the floor the next time he started. The stomp came. My grandmother, broom in hand, burst into the apartment. She beat that drunken husband until he hid under the bed, begging for mercy. Every time he dared to peek out, she'd hit him again. In a full-blown fury, she laid down the law: if she ever had to come back, she'd beat him twice as hard. "And," she added, "I'll go to your bar and tell every man there a woman beat you until you crawled under the bed!" She never had to return. It's wild to think she was also a polite, educated lady from Victorian times. But for her family, violence against women was an absolute line in the sand. She showed him. *** It's funny how we often picture Victorian ladies as delicate flowers. Yet, if you look at women's magazines from that very time, building up upper body strength by swinging Indian clubs was a popular recreation for women.
