Hot dogs as bait? This guy's a genius! 🌭

Been struggling at my local lake until this old timer shared his secret - hot dogs on a bobber! Sounds crazy but hear me out. He explained thick braid is too visible underwater, and hot dogs work amazing for smaller fish that reveal what's actually living there. Plus you can slice them thin and quarter them for perfect bite-sized pieces. His real trick? Using a weightless rig to map the underwater structure by feeling elevation changes through your rod tip. Dude's been mapping our entire lake this way all summer! Sometimes the simplest baits work best when you're just trying to figure out what's down there. Ever tried unconventional grocery store baits that actually worked? #fishing #hotdogbait #lakefishing #fishingbait #bassfishing #outdoors

Fishing apps ruined my secret childhood spot 😤

Had this perfect little bass pond growing up - 2 acres of pure magic tucked behind an old farm. Used to hike through waist-high grass, covered in bug spray, just to reach it. Reliable 4+ pounders and rarely saw another soul. Fast forward to now? First Fishbrain post went up in 2017 with the caption "Not big, but my first bass from this pond." Now there's paved parking, gravel trails, and crowds. I'm lucky to catch a 1-pounder where I used to nail giants. Don't get me wrong - apps help new anglers get hooked faster. But man, watching your childhood honey hole get served up to 14 million users on a silver platter stings. The learning process used to be half the fun. What do you think—are these apps a blessing or a curse for anglers? #fishing #fishingapps #spotburning #bassfishing #fishinglife #outdoors

These five fish have made me question my fishing skills more than once

Just had flashbacks reading about the hardest fish to hook. Last month I thought I was hot stuff until I met my first tarpon in Florida. That thing launched like a missile, did three backflips, and my hook was history. The worst part? Everyone warned me about their ceramic-hard mouths, but I didn't listen. Turns out some fish are just built different: 1️⃣ Tarpon: These giants are like trying to hook a ceramic plate! 2️⃣ Bowfin: Their jaws are pure granite—bent my hook like it was nothing. 3️⃣ Sheepshead: Their human-like teeth make them bait snatchers extraordinaire. 4️⃣ Tautog: Mastering the art of feeling the 'thump' is key. 5️⃣ Snakeheads: Their bite force is no joke, and they love to play tricks with your lure. Hooking them is one thing—keeping them hooked? That’s the real challenge. Which of these has made you lose the most sleep? #fishing #fishingchallenge #outdoors

Teaching my kid to wade without falling in

When my son was 4, I got him his first pair of chest waders. He called them his “water pants” and wanted to charge right into the stream. Two years later, I’ve learned a few tricks to keep him safe (and dry): 1️⃣ Check gear & patch fast – Little kid waders take a beating. I keep Flex Tape handy for pinholes or tears until I can seal them at home. 2️⃣ Add heel studs – Just 3–4 studs in the heel help prevent slips without punching through thin soles. 3️⃣ Teach rock smarts – Small rocks and gravel = safe. Big, flat rocks = slippery wipeouts. 4️⃣ Stay downstream – I always wade upstream of him, breaking the current and keeping a hand ready. It’s made our trips safer and way more fun. #fishing #kidsfishing #wadingtips #familyfishing #Outdoors
