Our Electricians and Plumbers Left So Many Holes. Is This a Normal Thing?
We just had some new lights, sockets, and switches installed, along with some plumbing work. All the work is done, but they left a total mess. I'm talking a ton of holes in the ceiling and all this drywall damage around the sockets. The pictures are just a few examples, but there's plenty more all over the place. I'm honestly just trying to figure out if this is normal. Is it standard practice for electricians and plumbers to just leave all this damage for the homeowner to fix? Many times codes are set in place for trades to follow leaving holes or openings to follow end result to be repaired . Even sometimes just to get the job accomplished in a timely manner with struggles in access point is a challenge. But the contractor is usually making homeowner aware before said work

Check your contracts. You will likely find a clause saying “patching and painting by others”. This would mean you own fixing the holes. The extra holes for the recessed lights are not normal since you are already making no a big hole for the actually light. The other holes are normal for that kind of work in an old house.

normally the contractor will let you know that if any holes have to be made, they're not responsible for them.
